MUSCAT, OCT 12 -

As part of its ongoing health awareness campaign, women visitors to Qurum City Centre will get a complimentary heart health testing today.

Several hundreds of women got their health checked up since the Majid al Futtaim’s ‘Feel the Beat’ health awareness campaign, which aims to spread awareness of cardiovascular disease (CVD), was launched last week.

“It’s very important that every woman get their heart checked as I believe in prevention is better than cure and one ought not take any chance with their health”, Fatma al Nabhani, Oman’s ace tennis player, told the Observer.

Accordingly, women who visit the mall today and tomorrow from 4 pm to 10 pm will get a free round of checks for various health conditions.

Cardiovascular disease (CVD), is a general term for conditions affecting the heart or blood vessels, and is usually associated with a build-up of fatty deposits inside the arteries —known as atherosclerosis — and an increased risk of blood clots.

Medical professionals from Sultan Qaboos University will be administering the health tests and conduct screenings for women. Visitors will be able to check their blood pressure, blood sugar and body mass index (BMI) to determine if they are at risk for cardiovascular diseases, and if they would require a follow-up consultation for further analysis. In addition, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) training sessions will be conducted during the initiative.
