A total of 588,339 male and female students from 1,129 public schools across all governorates of the Sultanate on Sunday started their new academic year. On this occasion, Dr Madeeha bint Ahmed al Shaibaniyah, Minister of Education, congratulated the teaching and administrative staff, as well as students and their parents. While the Ministry of Education estimates the number of male and female teachers this year at 56,000, it estimates the number of administrative staff and technicians at 10,641. The number of students grew by 25,916 this year as against last year. The number of male students stood at 295,935 as against 292,404 last year. A total of 29 new schools were added this year.
