Expo 2020 delegation visits OCCI

MUSCAT:  A delegation of organisers for Expo 2020 Dubai on Wednesday met with a number of officials at Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI) and Omani businessmen as part of a multi-leg tour that includes all GCC States. The meeting reviewed the investment opportunities provided by Expo 2020 Dubai for Omani companies in the different fields. Mohsen bin Khamis al Balushi, Adviser of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry said that the visit aims at benefiting from the opportunities that will be provided by the upcoming Expo 2020 Dubai for the Omani companies in the different fields, the criteria and the requirements for registering SMEs at the Expo.


While addressing the gathering, Al  Balushi urged Omani owners of SMEs to benefit from this international event in which about 200 states will take part. On his part, Redha bin Juma al Saleh, Deputy Chairman of OCCI for Administrative and Financial Affairs stressed the importance of taking part in this great event and urged SMEs to benefit from the available business opportunities at Expo Dubai 2020 and the presence of the organisers here in the Sultanate. On her part, Manal al Bayat, Deputy Head of the Business Integration and Development at Expo 2020 Dubai said that she expects to award more than 140 contracts worth AED11 billion in 2017. These contracts, which include goods and services, target the Omani business community in particular and Gulf business community in general.


She pointed out that Expo Dubai 2020 will be a platform to shed light on the national identity and an opportunity for the GCC states to showcase the development they have made before tourists and visitors to this big international expo, which is held in MENA and South Asia for the first time. The visit included presentations on Expo 2020 Dubai plans and the progress made to host this international event. The visit also focused on the available business opportunities during preparation for the Expo and during the six-month period of the Expo. The delegation toured an exhibition for the products and activities by 35 SMEs operating at construction, hospitality, food & beverage, steel, copper and traditional crafts. — ONA
