Muscat, July 1  -

For the first time in the Sultanate, Eid Carnival (Ayood) has been organised for children by special groups as part of the Eid al Fitr celebrations.

Many associations (home party groups) across the country used innovative ideas to engage children in absorbing as well as fun activities, including some adventure.

Starting from the second day of Eid until the sixth day, these groups moved from Balad Seet in Al Dakhiliyah Governorate to Al Khabourah in Al Batinah Governorate.

What make these carnivals unique are the large number of interesting games and the number of visitors they draw.

Besides spreading the joy of happiness, Ayood (Eid carnivals) aims at motivating children up to the age of 15 years to experience different adventures, including big slides, water games and ‘safari competitions’.

Safari is a competition that witnesses a “face-off” between two teams. Each team comprises five members who work together to win the maximum number of points. Team that gets most points is declared the winner.

A female participant said: “It is the first time I have played such a game. It reminds me of the safari programme on TV. I’m glad to have participated in it with new friends.”

Another game, motorbike riding, was very popular. Children were very excited to ride motorbikes.

Hamed al Qutati, owner of the school that hosted the carnival, said: “For the first time in Al Batinah Governorate, we had a big celebration. The number of visitors has risen, indicating its popularity.”

Some groups organised contests and gave away a lot of gifts. The carnival saw people dressing up as cartoon characters and taking photographs with the children.

Abdullah al Filaiti, the owner of a home party group, said: “It was nice to see children trying out various games. More than a thousand visitors came to the carnival. Since the games were challenging, kids were motivated to participate and experience a sense of adventure.”

Zamzam al Rubaei, a mother and a visitor, said: “Despite the heat, my children refused to stop playing at the carnival. I thank the organisers. Hope they hold it (carnival) every Eid.”
