Crackdown on drugs, human trafficking

By Staff Reporter — MUSCAT: April 1 - The Directorate General for Combating Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances of Royal Oman Police (ROP) arrested an Asian national while trying to smuggle heroin through Muscat International Airport. The CT scan revealed the presence of 156 capsules of heroin in his stomach, weighing about 1.5 kg. The accused was referred to the prosecution for complete investigation. Meanwhile, the General Administration of Customs said it seized a domestic worker who was smuggled with an Omani passport by a citizen. The Customs Department in Al Mazyouna was able to stop this illegal infiltration done in a truck. The department added that it seized a truck in Barka with 48,000 boxes of forbidden cigarettes and 681 kilogrammes of tobacco products. There have been more cases of narcotics seized at Muscat and Salalah International Airports during the inspection and passengers’ baggage.
