Leading global dredging and maritime infrastructure services provider Royal Boskalis Westminster NV has announced that it has received a Letter of Intent (LoI) for the award of a contract covering the construction of a bulk liquid terminal at the Port of Duqm.

The Netherlands-based firm said the contract, valued at approximately 480 million euros ($510 million), will be awarded by the Special Economic Zone Authority at Duqm (SEZAD) and is subject to Boskali satisfying certain conditions laid by the Authority.

The contract includes the engineering, design, procurement and construction of a bulk liquid berth terminal at Duqm Port, which anchors a major economic zone in Wusta Governorate.

“Various dredging & civil activities will be executed under the responsibility of Boskalis, including the deepening of the port basin to a depth of 18 metres, reclamation of new land, the construction of a quay wall with a length of one kilometre, a double berth jetty island and stone revetment,” said Boskalis in a press statement.

“The dredging scope will be executed by the new mega cutter Helios, which will be taken into service mid-2017, and a jumbo hopper and medium-sized trailer suction hopper dredger,” it stated.

Based on the current expectations, the design activities are due to commence in the coming weeks and equipment will be mobilised mid-2017. The project is expected to be completed in 2020, the company added.

The Royal Boskalis Westminster NV provides creative and innovative all-round solutions to infrastructural challenges in the maritime, coastal and delta regions of the world with services including the construction and maintenance of ports and waterways, land reclamation, coastal defence and riverbank protection.
