Although its exact origin cannot be traced, the Blue Mosque of Yerevan was completed in 1764-68. when Hussein Ali Khan, the local governor commissioned it. The 18th century Shia mosque stopped services during the Soviet era where it housed the History Museum of Yerevan. After Armenia gained independence, the mosque was renovated and today, is the only active mosque in Armenia.
