An Art Studio, curated and organised by Anna Dudchenko at Gallery Sarah in Muscat was opened on February 7. The ‘Art Studio’, a contemporary art exhibition, invites all art fans to discover a unique collection of contemporary art by five established and emerging Omani and international artists, which includes paintings, graphics, sculpture, installations, design objects, sketches, and various artefacts.

The art on display has been carefully selected by the curator, Anna Dudchenko, with a purpose of taking visitors on a journey through various artistic styles and techniques. Intriguing surrealistic drawings, wood, porcelain, and denim sculptures by Liubov Nikitina; mesmerising works on wood and stone enriched with traditional Omani decorative elements by Alia Farsi; giant paper-cut installation with mysterious creatures and intricate details by Farah Asqul; delicate hand cut paper collage by Debjani Bhardwaj; humorous graphic works and pencil drawings by Anna Dudchenko, and other exclusive artworks are found on display.

An eclectic mix of exciting contemporary art in a unique studio set-up is not to be missed. The visitor will be immersed in an atmosphere of contemporary art to discover new talents, browse through sketches and catalogues, and enjoy a unique artistic experience with an Omani flavour.

Anna Dudchenko is a well-known Omani artist of Russian origin living and working in the Sultanate since 1999. With her Western background which includes Masters in Fine Arts, Art History, and English Linguistics, she has become one of the most active figures in the Omani art scene.

As an artist, Dudchenko has organised 11 solo exhibitions, participated in numerous group shows, international art fairs, and charity events, illustrated two books, and worked on different projects and special commissions for private companies as well as government organisations.

Alia al Farsi, an accomplished and unconventional Omani artist, is constantly inspired by her muse — Oman. Alia Farsi has held solo exhibitions in Tokyo, Dubai, Paris, Seoul, Brussels, and has exhibited at Venice Biennale in addition to over 20 countries. Her works include large-scale paintings, objects, furniture, sculpture, and installations. Her work has been displayed at Museums including the Arab World Institute in Paris. She is also the recipient of numerous awards.

Nikitina is a multidisciplinary artist working on illustrations, sculpture, paintings and handicrafts to mention a few. Her works don’t represent a subject, as it is, they tell stories, stories that relate to a wide audience, stories that capture the curiosity of many.

Farah Asqul is an Omani artist, who is currently working on new projects. ‘Metamorphosis’ is a giant paper cut installation, which is part of Art Studio exhibition. The artist is exploring the symbol of moth and metamorphosis, infused with patterns from nature and industrial elements.

Debjani Bhardwaj is a visual storyteller, inspired by the realm of dreams and dreams within dreams. Her works aim to be an eclectic mix of fiction and reality, wherein curious images take birth and read like incoherent stories.

Art Studio is on display every day except Friday from February 7 to March 2 from 9.30 am to 5:30 pm at Gallery Sarah at Bait Al Zubair.
