Over 81,000 benefit from social security in 2016

MUSCAT: The number of cases benefiting from social security in the Sultanate reached 81,942 cases by the end of 2016, according to the Social Security Bulletin issued by the National Center for Statistics and Information (NCSI).


Total disbursements to social security beneficiaries amounted to RO 119,129,106. Statistics indicated that the year 2016 saw a decline in the number of social security cases by 3.2 per cent over the previous year.


The percentage of divorced women was 14.3 per cent of the beneficiaries of social security, with 11,744 cases paid RO12,684,245.


The percentage of widows benefiting from social security amounted to 7.5 per cent to reach 6,165 cases, with a decrease of 447 cases compared


to the previous year and paid RO 10,080,785.


The Governorate of North Al Batinah accounted for about a quarter of the cases benefiting from the social security (25.5 per cent), with 20,915 cases followed by Governorate of South Al Sharqiyah with 9,178 cases, than Governorate of South Al Batinah with 8,842 cases, Governorate of Al Dakhiliyah 8,709, Governorate of North Al Sharqiyah 7,954 cases, Governorate of Muscat 7,865 cases, Governorate of Al Dhahirah 6,148 cases, Governorate of Dhofar 5,624 cases, Governorate of Al Buraimi 3,404 cases, Governorate of Al Wusta 1,835 cases, Governorate of Musandam 1,338 cases and outside the Sultanate with 148 cases. — ONA
