Muscat, august 6 - A total of 600 students participated in a summer programme organised by the Directorate General of Education of Al Batinah North Governorate.

The two-week course was distributed across six centres in different wilayats around the Governorate: Al Khabourah, Al Suwaiq, Suhar, Shinas, Saham and Liwa.

Dr Khalid bin Rashid al Bulushi, the head of the organising committee of the programme, said: “The summer programme aims at developing students’ knowledge in areas such as interpersonal skills, fine arts, theatre, handicrafts and safety.”

Participants also learnt about applications of electricity, solar power and related discoveries through workshops conducted by specialists.

The programme also saw sports activities and entertainment. Participants were taken on educational tours.

Moza al Buraiki, the head of Bader al Kubra School, a summer centre in the Wilayat of Al Khabourah, said: “Children are happy to be involved in the summer programme and showed serious interest in developing their personality and skills.”

According to Al Buraiki, what makes the Bader Al Kubra summer centre unique is the idea of greening, in which students learn about the benefits of recycling.

Specialists were invited to deliver speeches and hold workshops on graphic designing, acrylic painting, sewing, etc.

The programme will conclude at the end of this week at the Sultan Qaboos Big Mosque at Suhar.
