3 arrested for stealing RO 52,000

By Staff Reporter — MUSCAT: March 22 - Royal Oman Police (ROP) arrested three people on suspicion of stealing RO 52,000 from a vehicle belonging to an expatriate in Saham. According to a report, the criminal investigations of North Batinah governorate, the first defendant in the case attacked the victim and opened the door of the vehicle by force and stole the money inside and fled the scene immediately in cooperation with the other defendants. He said the first accused was arrested in Saham while the second accused was arrested in the Interiors. The third suspect was arrested at Dubai airport following a tip-off.


Man arrested for setting vehicle on fire


In another case, the North Batinah arrested a citizen on charges of setting fire to a citizen’s vehicle in Suhar. The fire specialists immediately moved to the site and put off the fire set using a flammable material. The accused admitted that he had done the act with the intention of avenging the owner of the vehicle because of a personal dispute between them. The act of setting fire to a vehicle is one of the major criminal offenses that pose threat to both life and property. The Article 270 of the Omani Penal Code says that anyone who intentionally sets fire to public or private establishments, oil wells or in its various facilities, in manned or uninhabited housing, whether owned or otherwise, or intentionally set fire to anything close to the places mentioned, may also facilitate the spread of that fire.
